For the people who drench their roast dinner in gravy, a Camden cocktail bar has launched your ideal Sunday set-up.

The Lucky Club’s gravy fondue has gone viral on social media, with some people claiming it’s their idea of heaven.

But not everyone is as convinced, with customers mocking the food trend for just being a ‘deconstructed roast’ – as well as the ‘criminal’ substitution of roasties for new potatoes.

The ‘fondue’, which is only available on Sundays at the north London bar, comes with a big bowl of gravy accompanied by ‘all the trimming’s, including boiled broccoli, new potatoes, roast cauliflower, pigs in blankets and stuffing.

‘Not if you’re serving boiled potatoes instead of roasties!’ one person said on Instagram. ‘That’s against roast law!!!!!’

The £18pp ‘viral gravy fondue’, which costs £25 if you want unlimited gravy, launched on November 19 at the cocktail bar’s pop-up winter ski bar.

They shared a video of the fondue five days earlier as a teaser and it went viral – but the bar was also roasted in the comments.

‘So it’s just… deconstructed roast,’ one person pointed out.

Another said: ‘Hang on, did you just…. Separate each section of a roast and call it fondue?! Leave the sacred roast as the masterpiece it is – blasphemy.’

While a third added: ‘Anyone else think this is ridiculous? Why not just have it on a plate? Also it can’t be called fondue! No cheese involved!

‘In the words of James May: “What they have done here is uninvent the wheel”.’

And many people were furious about the bar’s trimmings offerings, especially substituting the classic roasties for new potatoes.

‘This made me incandescent with rage,’ one person said. ‘Absolute sacrilege.

‘Plain, boiled cauliflower. New potatoes. Everything going cold separated like that???? It’s offensive is what it is.’

‘Not having roasties is criminal,’ said another.

Another sticking point for customers was the risk of double dipping.

Someone wrote: ‘I’m down for all these new things but this is a step too far. If someone double dips ill freak. Get it on a plate and pour the gravy on the ONLY way a roast should be eaten.’

While another said: ‘I couldn’t think of anything worse than everyone double dipping into the Sunday roast Gravy.’

Taking things in a slightly more sinister direction, another person said: ‘Forks must be long enough to pierce the heart of anyone who double-dips.’

In a recent post the bar insisted the haters are outnumbered by fans.

The post read: ‘The viral dipping roast! 4.5M people have seen our gravy fondue roast dinner – and 100’s of you have flocked to try it.

‘We’re now extending bookings for the remaining Sundays in December AND January!’
