    Coronation Street star Sally Carman has been supported by her co-stars as she takes on a new job away from the cobble.

    The actress is best known for playing Abi Franklin on the soap ITV – making her debut back in 2017. Since then, Abi has been involved in several big storylines, from drug abuse to the tragic death of her son Seb.

    However last month, Sally revealed to fans her major new career move – confirming she bagged a position of director for an exciting new stage production. And last Saturday (September 30) she gave fans a sneak peek at the project, as she showed off her off-camera skills.

    Ahead of the play's live run getting underway, Sally shared a slew of pictures on her Instagram. In the snaps, she can be seen in her director role in a rehearsal room. She wrote in the caption: "Having an absolute blast working with this fabulous bunch on @jbshortsplays," she started the caption of her post. "Thank you @winniegrace.s @audaciouskempo @seanchriscole @_bensherlock for breathing life into these characters, I couldn’t be happier."

    She added: "@carol.donaldson.music your harmonies will forever melt me and @loughran64, your guitar skills are off the scale and the wonderful @ellaannefraser, @johnny_duttine_ @jamquinnofficial for having my back. @lindsaywilliams8900 what a story you have written! Come and see what we’ve been doing! @jbshortsplays runs at @53two from the 3rd to the 14th October ( tickets in link above ) and thank you @calebfrench.26 for these great shots!"

    Although she’ll be working away from her Corrie mates, they soon shared their excitement and flooded the comments section with support. Sally Dynevor, who plays Sally Metcalfe said: "Oh love Joan. Can’t wait to see this.”

    While Glenda Shuttleworth star Jodie Prenger commented a slew of clapping hands emojis. Fans also shared their support, with one writing: “This is great Sally. I really hope you will enjoy your new project.”

    Echoing their thoughts, someone else added: “This is wonderful, happy to see you're enjoying it.” A third follower quipped: “Can't wait to see this!

    Away from the soap, Sally is happily married to Joe, who plays Tim Metcalfe. Joe and Sally have been dating since August 2018 and revealed they had moved in together in November of the following year.

    In March 2020, the couple announced they were engaged after Joe popped the question while they were enjoying a walk during lockdown. The couple tied the knot in a lavish ceremony at St Philip's Church in Salford in July 2022.

    Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday on ITV1 and ITVX at 8pm
