All Creatures Great and Small Mrs Pumphrey star details accident on set

All Creatures Great and Small season 4 trailer

All Creatures Great and Small is set to return on Thursday, October 5, and will pick up the story in the spring of 1940, with Mrs Pumphrey star Patricia Hodge opening up about an on-set incident.

Mrs Pumphrey was missing throughout season three after Patricia was tied up with other commitments and health issues.

However, the opinionated and headstrong woman of the show will be returning alongside her dog Tricky-Woo.

Patricia recently gave an insight into a new arrival she will be on-screen with, and told Express.co.uk and other press about an incident.

When asked if Mrs Pumphrey was getting her war garden ready to help provide food for the village, Patricia explained: “That is probably in the background.

“We didn’t dwell on that because she is also helping out with the animals. She has to, she has a particular dog that she takes on as well as Tricky, which gives her some problems.

“It is a big dog, it is very strong and all I can tell you is, we had to have a lead which was [quite] thick, and he nearly pulled me over.

“So very different from the furry brooch that I usually have. It is a very large boxer, called Cedric. I think it is Cedric…”

On Monday, a one-minute trailer was released ahead of the series beginning next week where it showed the arrival of Tristan Farnon’s (played by Callum Woodhouse) replacement.

The clip showed new vet Richard Carmody (James Anthony-Rose) in action but it might take a while for him to get the hang of things and become the best partner for Siegfried Farnon (Samuel West) and James Herriot (Nicholas Ralph).

As the newcomer makes an appearance, Siegfried doesn’t look too thrilled about it as he fumed: “Richard Carmody from London, he won’t last.”

Elsewhere in the trailer, it showed the James and Helen Herriot (Rachel Shenton) are expecting a new addition to Skeldale house and it isn’t an animal as they tease a pregnancy.

All Creatures Great and Small returns on October 5 at 9pm on Channel 5.
