BBC star admits my job has ceased to exist as she leaves radio show for good

The BBC has once again come under fire for their cuts to local broadcasting.

It has received a lot of flack over the past year due to the rolling back of regional radio services across the country and they are once again under the spotlight. After 25 years of loyal service, presenter Kirsteen Thorne has announced that she is set to depart the corporation and her Saturday breakfast show on BBC Radio Norfolk.

Taking to X – formerly known as Twitter – she wrote: "I officially leave the BBC on 30th October. My job has ceased to exist and I’m currently using up my leave. Today I received an email about my upcoming appraisal in which I can ‘celebrate my achievements’ and ‘be clear on my future priorities’".

The soon to be former BBC star added: "You have to laugh." She was later inundated with supportive messages from colleagues alike as fellow former BBC radio presenter Georgy Jamieson replied: "You have to laugh or else you’d cry. It’s extraordinary isn’t it."

Whilst her other colleague at the Beeb Keith Greentree also responded writing: "Haha – I beat you by 1 day – so it’s bye, bye from me at 1600 on the 29th!" Digital producer Anne Robinson remarked: "I found out I was losing my job at the BBC after seeing a job advert for it… then during the hiring process, someone from the recruitment team called me and told me about this brilliant new role… my own job! You couldn't make it up."

This was whilst her fans flocked to the site to express their outrage and send their well wishes to the media personality. One fan wrote: "Totally mad. Miss the old teams on the radio over the weekend. It isn’t the new presenters fault & they may be lovely people but just isn’t the same."

A second follower commented: "The fun and laughter we had on a Saturday morning will remain unmatched! You’ve always been a joy to work with and incredibly patient when I go on one of my on air tangents." "Just proves what a mess they are in. Saturday morning just isn’t the same. I’ve become a classic FM listener. Thank you for all your hard work," noted a third.

And a fourth wrote: "Ahh wishing you the very best for whatever's next. I jumped the 'BBC local ship' after 24 years nearly three years ago now. And yes you have to laugh at the madness of the situation if you can. I'm still laughing now." They added: "But can't help shed a tear for those treated so poorly."
