Channel 4 slam MAFS Nathanials claims he was talked into marrying trans bride

MAFS UK: Nathaniel storms off leaving Ella crying after argument

Channel 4 have strongly denied claims made by Married At First Sight groom Nathaniel Valentino that he was “talked into” marrying transgender bride Ella Morgan.

“Nathanial entered this process voluntarily with full and informed consent, and in this instance was actually provided with more information than we would ordinarily share with cast members, to make him aware that his bride was trans,” a Channel 4 spokesperson told Express.co.uk.

“The matching process entails a detailed interrogation of every participant’s preferences and none of these would be overlooked when deciding who to pair them with.

In an explosive interview the 36-year-old events manager, who quit the show early, also claimed “some of the welfare just wasn’t there”- something that Channel 4 also deny.

“The welfare of all contributors on Married at First Sight UK is our top priority and we ensure that appropriate support is available to contributors at all times before, during and after filming – including 24/7 access to a member of the welfare team or psych support.”

Finally, they addressed his claims that the show was scripted saying: “The show is an unscripted reality series which follows real events as they naturally unfold, and is in no way scripted.”

Nathanial spoke to OK! about his experiences on the show after he quit the programme.

“I told producers that I wanted to marry a man, or a woman with a very masculine energy, because that’s normally who I go for.

“Then I was told they matched me with a lovely girl who was transgender. My first reaction was ‘no’ because I felt that just wasn’t me, and I told them so.

However,  he claims that producers told him that if he “didn’t take part it would ruin this girl’s story.”

Admitting  that he had turned down a work contract as he had thought he was going on the show he says he relented and agreed to the wedding.”

Despite this, he says he had “deal breakers” and requested someone who didn’t smoke or who didn’t work in the sex industry. Ella, who is the show’s first ever transgender participant is a smoker who has previously worked as a stripper.

Fans discovered that Nathanial knew the truth about her past profession in Wednesday night’s episode when he stormed off and revealed she was a stripper. Speaking to the camera, Ella explained they had had a private conversation about her past and she stated she wasn’t ashamed of it.

Starting to cry, she added: “He said that’s absolutely fine, but I am a little bit worried that that’s the reason he’s not being intimate. There’s nothing I can do, this isn’t what I thought it was going to be, I’m gutted.”

Married At First Sight is on E4 Monday to Thursday at 9pm.
