Cheryl fights tears as she opens up on making Girls Aloud reunion ‘magical for Sarah Harding’

Girls Aloud appeared on The One Show to talk about their upcoming tour but it all became a little too much for Cheryl.

The Geordie singer became emotional as she spoke about going back on tour without Sarah Harding, who died in 2021.

She shared: "It's very odd, if I'm completely honest.

"We've found every step of the way of this a bit weird. Being totally honest it will never be the same as it was."

As Nadine Coyle held her hand, Cheryl continued: "But we are just trying our very best to make it magical with Sarah in mind."

Kimberley Walsh added: "We'd had loads of conversations coming up to our 20 year anniversary and obviously those conversations involved Sarah.

"So sadly, after she passed away, that went out the window.

"We focused on other things. Then it was probably over the summer we spent a lot of time together.

"There was a kind of shift I suppose, we felt such an outpouring of love towards the group and for Sarah.

"Suddenly it just felt like, do you know what, maybe we are ready to celebrate those 21 years. And also celebrate her."

Cheryl agreed: "Because she wanted to do it so much as well. We're going to honour her the best way we can and make it magical."

It's not the first time this week Cheryl has become emotional when speaking about Sarah.

Joining Amanda Holden and Jamie Theakston on Heart Breakfast, Cheryl fought tears when she recalled discussing a tour with the late singer.

The mum-of-one said: "I did speak to Sarah one-on-one and she said to me ‘I hope you four do something when I’m not here’, but in that moment I couldn’t entertain that thought."

Kimberley added: "We always talk about how much she loved Girls Aloud. She loved it. It was just the best time ever for her, we spoke so much about it the few months before she passed away and how much she loved it, she made us watch old videos."

Girls Aloud announced their nationwide tour earlier this week but confirmed they would not release new music.

Nadine explained: "There is no new music and there is no video – although we've shot a commercial."

Cheryl confirmed: "Making new music without Sarah would be odd. But celebrating what we made together? Fabulous."
