Coronation Street fans ‘work out’ reason Lauren Bolton desperately needs cash

Coronation Street: Laurence talks with Todd before leaving

Coronation Street fans believe they’ve figured out why Lauren Bolton (played by Cait Fritton) desperately needed money.

This week, fans of the ITV soap saw Ryan Connor (Ryan Prescott) and Daisy Midgeley (Charlotte Jordan) sleep together after months of tension brewing between them.

Although they wanted to keep the brief fling a secret, Lauren walked into the flat to discover Daisy, who had her top inside out.

It wasn’t long before Lauren learnt Daisy was engaged to Daniel Osbourne (Rob Mallard), after spotting them together at the cafe.

Realising Daisy had cheated on her partner, Lauren decided to use this to her advantage and demanded £1,000 in order to buy her silence.

Refusing to tell Ryan why she needed the cash, viewers watched as they managed to find the money to keep her quiet for now.

However, earlier on in the episode, Lauren was seen taking mysterious phone calls from someone.

In one of these secret calls, Lauren insisted to the person on the other end that she’d pay the money and not tell anyone.

It wasn’t long before people took to Twitter to speculate what the cash was needed for as some believe the teen is in trouble.

@WhoPotterVian said: “I wonder if Lauren’s dealing with a loan shark…?”

The same viewer later questioned: “Interesting. Is Lauren in serious trouble? She seemed nervous with who she was talking to on the phone…

@Mikepriestley13 suggested: “Do you reckon Lauren is related to Justin? And Justin was on the phone? I haven’t read this anywhere. I’m just thinking she doesn’t want to blackmail Ryan but when he’s in the room she’s committed to blackmailing him? Just seems odd.”

@runninoncaffine asked his social media followers: “What’s Lauren up to?”

@Suzicarrigan added: “Lauren was okay living on her own before Ryan moved in, so what changed?”

@RyanTheSoapking commented: “Why is Lauren so desperate for £1,000? I knew she’d blackmail Ryan.”

Will Lauren be in danger if she doesn’t deliver the money to this mysterious person?

Coronation Street continues Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays on ITV from 8pm.
