Coronation Street horror as Gemma Winters accused of poisoning youngster

Coronation Street: Gemma and Chesney argue over money

Coronation Street’s Joseph Brown (William Flanagan) has been complaining of illness for the past several weeks much to his father Chesney’s (Sam Aston) annoyance.

However, stepmother Gemma (Dolly-Rose Campbell) has been more sympathetic to the youngster which has caused several rows between the couple.

Spoilers released by ITV reveal that it looks like her concerns have been correct though, as the youngster is rushed to hospital after passing out – but all is not as it seems.

When he says he feels ill again Gemma doesn’t believe him, thinking that she did indeed overreact last time.

Unfortunately, he is being very sincere and when Chesney is called to take him out of school Joseph is clearly very bitter that Gemma did not believe him and complains to his father.

Chesney is naturally concerned for her and suggests that she’s not coping well, which really touches a nerve as she brands herself a terrible mother and slams out.

It all appears to be forgotten about as the family prepare to celebrate an early Christmas since Gemma’s mother Bernie Winter (Jane Hazlegrove ) is going to jail for three months.

The preparations take a turn though when Chesney becomes concerned that Joseph is still unwell.

On her mother’s advice, Gemma makes him a cup of lavender tea thinking that it will perk him up.

After drinking it he later collapses and a horrified Chesney calls an ambulance.

As he blames himself and wishes that he’d listened to Gemma’s concern they are dealt a blow when the doctor informs them that Joseph has actually been poisoned. Apparently, the lavender that Gemma gave him in his tea is toxic to humans.

Obviously, this comes as a massive shock to the couple and although they are allowed home from the hospital they are accompanied by a child protection officer who needs to interview Gemma.

Needless to say, this completely puts a dampener on the early Christmas celebrations and after everyone clears the house the officer questions Gemma and suggests that she may have poisoned Joseph on purpose.

As Gemma reels will she be able to convince the authorities and her family that this was an accident?

Coronation Street is on ITV on Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 8pm.
