Coronation Street’s Stephen Reid (played by Todd Boyce) is set to meet his downfall during the upcoming Super Soap Week, with his co-stars paying glowing tributes to the actor.

Stephen’s crimes begin to surface and come to light on Monday, October 9 when Tim Metcalfe (Joe Duttine) rumbles the car box in the canal.

As the week plays out, Stephen becomes more desperate to get away from Weatherfield and start a new life in Thailand, with no murders on his conscience.

Stephen has been a character in the ITV soap since 1996 and made several comebacks to the cobbles, but will this be his last?

Actor Todd Boyce received glowing tributes from some of his co-stars recently who all praised his professionalism and nature around the set.

Producer Iain MacLeod said: “He is up there, I think he is entirely unique and what I have liked watching Stephen and Todd is yes, you can try and sit there and try and find parallels between iconic Corrie bad guys.

“But I think he is entirely his own genre. I talked about villains before, and Alan Rickman was once asked why he always played villains and he said ‘I don’t play villains I play very interesting people’.

“And I think that is how Todd has approached it and how we have in the writing. He is not a man who woke up one morning and thought ‘Do you know what is missing from my life, a bit of murder and mayhem’.

“We have watched it evolve and rooted it in his massive ego and so I think he is entirely unique and will go on to be iconic.”

Alison King who plays Carla Connor added: “Todd is amazing to work with, it has just been a joy and I like how it has all come together.

“It is always a joy to do a big storyline, Todd [is] supportive and kind and beautiful and he would come in and just go ‘Is everybody ok, I love what you did last night, are you ok? Can I have a cuddle?’.

“And I’m like how are you still able to be this amazing and beautiful with everyone else when you are just flat out.

“Nine scenes a day, and you ring him and go ‘Are you ok?’ and he’d go ‘Yeah I’m just reading lines, are you good?’.”

Ryan Russell who plays Michael Bailey jumped in and added: “He has been so professional. Not even a few lines he has a a lot of lines, especially the Underworld stuff.

“It is really technical and he never gets it wrong and he is always… for me, he has been a pleasure to work with and this is the biggest story I have been in so I am just happy to be here.”

Coronation Street airs Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
