AHEAD of the upcoming 60th anniversary special, David Tennant is returning to the world of Doctor Who once more, but there’s a twist.
David, 52, will host an hour-long Doctor Who documentary in anticipation of the franchise’s upcoming celebrations.
He is also set to take the lead in the franchise’s 60th anniversary special later in November which will see him reunite with his former companion Donna Noble (portrayed by Catherine Tate).
David originally played the Tenth Doctor, but with now return as the Fourteenth.
The three-part special will lead into Sex Education star Ncuti Gatwa taking over the role at Christmas.
Speaking about what lies ahead, showrunner Russell T Davies said: “The path to Ncuti’s Fifteenth Doctor is laden with mystery, horror, robots, puppets, danger and fun! And how is it connected to the return of the wonderful Donna Noble? How, what, why? We’re giving you a year to speculate, and then all hell lets loose!”

However, in the run up to all the excitement, David has another surprise for Doctor Who fans. He will be diving into the classic era of Doctor Who as he hosts a celebratory doc.
The BBC programme will feature archive interviews from actors who’ve previously portrayed the Time Lord, including the late William Hartnell, who played the First Doctor, through to Sylvester McCoy, who played the Seventh Doctor.
The hour-long programme is set to air on BBC Four on Wednesday 1st November.
This look back at the classic era of Doctor Who comes after the BBC announced more than 800 hours of old episodes would be available to stream on iPlayer as of November 1.

However, fans were left frustrated when the broadcaster announced that the first four episodes of the entire Doctor Who franchise (titled An Unearthly Child) wouldn’t be included because they “do not have the rights to those.”
Nevertheless, there will be plenty of the First Doctor’s other adventures joining the streamer – beginning with the next seven-part series, which is titled The Daleks.
The Doctor Who anniversary doc airs on BBC Four on November 1 ahead of the anniversary special later in the month.
