EastEnders fans spot clue that Nadine is ‘figment of Jay’s imagination’

BBC EastEnders fans believe there’s more to newcomer Nadine than her striking resemblance to the late Lola Pearce, as they believe they’ve figure out her identity.

EastEnders actor Jamie Borthwick, who plays grieving Jay Brown in the BBC soap, has been meeting with Walford newcomer Nadine over the last few weeks after initially mistaking her for his late wife Lola Pearce, given the uncanny resemblance they bear.

The car salesman has been relatively quiet in Albert Square since Lola's death in late May, but things changed when viewers saw him meet Nadine (played by Jazzy Phoenix), an escort who bore a striking physical resemblance to his late wife.

While nothing romantic between them has unfolded so far, some viewers think there is a good reason to suggest that Nadine is actually a figment of grieving Jay’s imagination instead of a real person, after uncovering 'proof'.

Nadine recently bumped into Jay and he ended up staying with her, finally being able to get some sleep with someone beside him.

But on Reddit, confused fans discussed the possibility that Nadine isn't real at all.

One user questioned: "Could Nadine maybe be a figment of Jay's imagination? Or Lola's sister?"

While another fan added their opinion into a different thread, writing: "Has anyone else spoken to her on screen? Could be in his head, a way of processing the grief of losing Lola (as she looks identical).. and she just happens to escort? (Look over that part)."

A third commented: "Wondering if anyone else on the square has interacted with the character? It may be a storyline that Jay has imagined her?"

Another user responded to the question and fuelled the speculation by adding: "She ordered a coffee off of Kathy, but Kath was out of shot so we don’t know if she really saw her…"

Although the theory may seem a little far fetched, it would be entirely plausible that Jay has been hallucinating given the fact the show has already established that he has been struggling to sleep.

Jay's biggest storyline to date has been his role as a devoted husband to Lola Pearce as she lost her battle with her tumour.

Lola star Danielle Harold was written out of the soap and has since won huge plaudits for her portrayal of Lola’s cancer storyline, winning Best Leading Performance at the British Soap Awards, and Best Serial Drama Performance at this month's National Television Awards.

While EastEnders newcomer Jazzy, who has been a professional actress for the past five years, made her first appearance on the hit BBC soap on Monday, 18 September when Jay returned to Albert Square after a night of insomnia.

The pair seemingly hit it off, but some fans have their concerns and other theories.

Some viewers have suggested that Nadine could be connected to one of Albert Square’s villains, especially given her profession as an escort .

Eagle eyed fans have also theorised that Nadine could have history with Theo Hawthorne, who fans will recall had been making Stacey Slater’s life a living hell since he obsessively fell in love with her.

Another popular theory among fans, is that Nadine could share a connection to Lola Pearce herself, with many speculating that she could be the daughter of Emma Harding, Lola’s estranged mother.
