EastEnders Jay Brown given ultimatum as drug use gets out of hand

Patsy Kensit addresses return to EastEnders as Emma

EastEnders fans will know Jay Brown (played by Jamie Borthwick) is struggling to cope with the loss of his wife, Lola Pearce (Danielle Harold) who died of cancer a few months ago.

The usually responsible Walford favourite has sadly turned to drugs to help him sleep after meeting Nadine Keller (Jazzy Phoenix), who uses ketamine.

Official spoilers from the BBC soap reveal Ben Mitchell (Max Bowden) becomes angry at husband Callum Highway (Tony Clay) when news of Jay’s arrest reaches him, but Jay covers and insists it was only possession of weed that landed him in a cell.

Jay continues to struggle with his grief and later asks Gina Knight (Francesca Henry) if she has a drug dealer but she refuses.

Later, Gina invites Ben to The Albert to discuss her concerns about Jay.

Billy Mitchell (Perry Fenwick) runs the idea of scattering Lola’s ashes past Jay, but he bites back and laments that everyone has moved on from her death besides him.

Jay gets drunk and raises Honey Mitchell’s (Emma Barton) concerns before the pair have a heartfelt conversation about grief.

Later, Jay meets Nadine who assumes he’s there for more drugs.

Jay is full of regret and is later propositioned by Ben who gives him an ultimatum – he has to stop the drugs or he’ll kick him out.

Later in The Vic, Jay promises to do better but things go from bad to worse when Nadine arrives.

Jay made a promise to Lola before her death that he would take care of her schoolgirl daughter, Lexi Pearce (Isabella Brown).

While she was ill, Lola was more worried about Ben coping and asked Jay to adopt her daughter, which infuriated Ben at the time.

It seems her suspicions were slightly wrong though as Jay is now the one acting recklessly.

Could Ben eventually stop Jay from being around Lola, potentially pushing him further into his drug habit?

It could be that he promises to turn over a new leaf but Nadine’s appearance in The Vic sparks a row, leading Jay to leave with her.

Will anyone be able to help Jay before his addiction becomes more serious?

EastEnders continues on Monday at 7.30pm on BBC One.
