EastEnders legend ‘eyes up’ Coronation Street role as she breaks silence on axe
EastEnders airs special flashforward scene for Christmas 2023
EastEnders’ actress Lorraine Stanley, who plays Karen Taylor in the BBC soap, has addressed being axed after seven years.
The 47-year-old admitted she’s upset to be leaving Walford but is open to joining a rival soap.
Opening up about the moment she was called about getting the axe, Lorraine said: “I was sad, it was a mix of emotions, it’s sad but it’s exciting as now I can go and do what I want.
“You can get a bit relaxed there and a bit comfortable. So I want to be out of my comfort zone.”
Continuing her interview with The Sun, she said: “I just want people to remember her as the best mum on the square, a heart of gold, she’d give you her last fiver and would do anything for her kids – a bit like myself.”
When asked about the future she added: “Would I consider a rival soap? If I did, I think it would have to be Corrie and I would have to be the new landlady.
“I’d be Gemma’s [Winter] auntie, Bernie’s sister. I’d be in their family and I’d take over The Rovers.”
Could we end up seeing the actress walking around Weatherfield in the near future if the opportunity arose?

It looks like Lorraine is not the only star leaving EastEnders as fans have been speculating for months about who gets killed this Christmas.
BBC soap fans know a mystery male character will die this festive season with one of six females tipped to be the killer.
The shocking moment was teased in a flashforward earlier this year.

In February’s flashforward, Stacey Slater (Lacey Turner) could be seen with blood on her hands while Denise Fox (Diane Parish) was clutched onto a broken champagne bottle as a man was seen lying dead on a pub floor.
Sharon Watts (Letitia Dean) checked his pulse and confirmed the mysterious figure was dead.
How is responsible and who is the victim? The episode is set to play out for the soap’s Christmas special.
EastEnders airs Mondays to Thursdays on BBC One at 7.30pm.
