Emmerdale star returns to TV in new role

Former Emmerdale star Michael Parr is returning to TV in ITV’s The Long Shadow, which hits our screens on Monday, September 25.

Emmerdale fans will remember him as bad boy Ross Barton, who spent an explosive five years in the village.

During that time, Ross had several love interests, including Donna Dingle, Debbie Dingle and Charity Dingle – there’s a theme here – but eventually left the village with partner Rebecca White and her son Seb.

Ross was involved in countless hard hitting storylines, including affairs, heists and even a controversial dognapping plot.

One of his most harrowing storylines saw him become the victim of an acid attack, after ex Debbie hired someone to rough up Joe Tate, but they got the wrong man.

In 2018, Mike left the role of Ross Barton, but we are soon set to see him on the small screen once more.

Mike has joined the cast of new drama The Long Shadow, which tells the story of the five year hunt for serial killer Peter Sutcliffe, sensitively focusing on the lives of the victims who crossed his path and those of the officers at the heart of the police investigation.

The show boasts an impressive cast, and Mike is not the only former soap star to be appearing.

Taking to Instagram, Mike shared a still from the trailer, which showed him in character alongside Coronation Street star and television veteran Katherine Kelly, who played the loveable Becky McDonald on the cobbles.

He also reunites with former Emmerdale co-stars Charley Webb, who played on-screen lover Debbie, and Sammy Winward, or is best known for her role as Katie Sugden in the Yorkshire based soap.

Coronation Street’s Liam Connor actor Rob James-Collier is also in the cast, and former EastEnders and Corrie icon Jill Halfpenny is taking on the role of Doreen Hill – the mother of one of Sutcliffe’s victims.

Fans are super excited for Mike’s return to screens, with one commenting on his Instagram post: ‘Really looking forward to this.’

‘Can’t wait to see this,’ another said, while a third wrote: ‘Awww nice one Mike! Can’t wait to watch this!’

Emmerdale co-star Amy Walsh, who has just returned to her role as Tracy Metcalfe, also shared her excitement over the casting.

‘Ooh can’t wait for this! Well done babe. Didn’t know you’d done it.’

The Long Shadow begins on Monday, September 25 on ITV1.
