I thought my brooch was worthless and left it in a drawer – it turned out to be worth more than a car for lucky reason | The Sun

AN Antiques Roadshow guest who brought her 'worthless' brooch that had been sitting in her drawer for years was stunned to learn that it was worth more than a car for a special reason.

BBC viewers were taken to Alexandra Gardens in Cardiff, where some shockingly expensive jewellery was discovered during a car boot sale.

A guest brought a pearl-encrusted brooch with images of two men and a pig to be valued.

She said that she thought it was "worthless" and that it had been collecting dust in her drawer for years.

The guest said that she had no idea how her family obtained it.

Expert, Geoffrey Munn examined the brooch and stated that the pattern originated in the high Renaissance and ancient antiquity.

He added that it represented a composite demon known as a "gryllus."

The expert said: "Cameos are marvellous objects because they're mini sculptures really."

Taking a closer look at the pin, Geoffrey said the cameo dated back to either the 16th or 17th century, and the pearl frame was from 1840.

"I have no hesitation in valuing it for, well, £7,000," Geoffrey said.

The guest, taken aback by the number, exclaimed. "To be honest, I can't believe it."

"It's been sitting in a drawer for so long, we haven't known anything about it so I'm quite overwhelmed, to be honest…

"My mum is going to be completely blown away, because she won't have believed it was worth anything."
