I’m A Celeb winner dishes on ‘easy’ task campmates are told to pretend to do

He won I’m A Celebrity back in 2008 and went on to present its spin-off show for ten years, so Joe Swash certainly knows a thing or two about what it’s really like in the Australian jungle.

Letting us in on some show secrets, he’s revealed what actually happens when cleaning the camp’s toilet – also known as the dunny – and it’s not as bad as you might think.

“With the dunny, you’ve got to take out a big barrel from underneath – and you’ve got to be careful in case it slops up – and then you’ve got to put a lid on it and drag it around the corner,” the former EastEnders star, 41, explained to OK! .

“We haven’t really got to clean it. They just give us another barrel. But I honestly didn’t mind doing that job. It was one of the easiest jobs there.”

Earlier this year, Joe gave the jungle experience a second go when he appeared on the all-star series, I’m A Celebrity South Africa.

He was joined alongside other names including Carol Vorderman, Myleene Klass and Phil Tufnell, and he was on dunny duty once again.

“I did [the dunny] with Tufnell in South Africa, but he ended up not doing it, so I was doing it for him!” he said.

“You do anything to keep yourself busy in there.”

Joe has been tuning into this year’s series, and while watching the Bushtucker Trials may bring back bad memories for a lot of past contestants, he says it has the opposite effect on him.

‘I love it,” he said. “I get a weird excitement in my stomach, like it’s competition time. I get quite excited!”

Joe, who is returning to EastEnders for the first time in 15 years, was crowned King of the Jungle during the eighth series of I’m A Celebrity, beating former tennis player Martina Navratilova and Star Trek actor George Takei.

The show no doubt holds a very special place in his heart. Not only has it been a huge part of his career, but it’s also how he met wife Stacey Solomon.

The pair first crossed paths back in 2010, when Stacey was crowned Queen of the Jungle and Joe hosted the spin-off series, I'm a Celebrity: Extra Camp.

They started dating in 2015 and later hosted I'm A Celebrity: Extra Camp together.

Stacey, 34, and Joe, who tied the knot in July 2022, are parents to Rex, four, Rose, two, and nine-month-old Belle.

Stacey is also mum to sons Zachary, 15, and Leighton, 11, while Joe is dad to 16-year-old son Harry.
