Noel Fitzpatrick details feeling best friend’s heart stopping in his fingers

Noel Fitzpatrick says he felt his best friend’s heart stop in his hands

Supervet’s Noel Fitzpatrick candidly opened up about feeling his best friend’s heart stop in his fingers during an operation.

The Channel 4 star lost his beloved dog Keira back in 2021, one year after she was hit by a delivery van and suffered serious injuries.

After the traffic incident, Keira was left with internal organ damage and a shattered pelvis which Noel operated on.

Keira spent a year in recovery, however, the border terrier sadly died the following year.

Although the Supervet hasn’t revealed the exact cause of her death, he recently opened up about the moment she passed.

Appearing on Thursday’s instalment of This Morning, Noel spoke to hosts Alison Hammond and Dermot O’Leary about his new book Keira & Me, which follows the incredible bond they shared.

Speaking about his late dog, Alison said: “You actually saved her life to begin with didn’t you?”

He replied: “Yeah, so she had a bad accident and thanks to my colleagues and myself operating, all of us saved her, all of us saved her together.”

Mentioning his book, Noel told the presenters it’s a celebration of companionship with anybody.

The Supervet continued: “It occurred to me this morning as I was coming in here, I don’t suppose many people in their lives have actually felt the heart of their best friend stop in their fingers.

“When I cut down on her chest to try and save her in the end, her heart was actually on my fingers when she passed.

“That put me in touch with something ethereal, something that transcends us and that is unconditional love.”

It wasn’t long until people watching the show were moved by Noel’s words as he told the hosts having Keira was the best experience he ever had.

@Dc7073Bloss commented: “#thismorning I know how much Kiera meant to Noel, she was a lovely wee dog.”

@vanessahodgesd added: “Noel was destined to become a supervet.”
