Only Fools And Horses fans complain as they notice ‘problem’ in iconic episodes

Only Fools And Horses fans have shared the same complaint after re-watching the Miami Twice episodes and noticing what they say is a "problem".

The two-part Christmas special aired over the festive period in 1991, with the second subtitled Oh To Be In England. In the episodes, Del Boy tries to get Rodney and Cassandra back together with a trip to Miami.

Del ends up going with Rodney instead though – with Rodney unaware the tickets were bought with his pension money. In Miami, the duo get caught up in the local mafia family.

The mafia boss, Vinny The Chain Ochetti is a doppelgänger of Del Boy, and also played by David Jason, and a plan is formed to assassinate Del to trick the public into thinking Ochetti is dead, therefore saving him from impending imprisonment. Things go from bad to worse for the duo, who eventually go home after a number of failed murder attempts and police drama.

Over the years, different versions of the double-bill have been released – and it seems fans aren't happy with one re-issue. Taking to Reddit, one viewer complained: "Watched Miami Twice today for the first time in years.

"I'd forgotten how jarring the canned laughter is in the second half. It cuts through the dialogue and really stands out as bad compared with other episodes."

Another noted: "I remember seeing this as a movie-length episode without laughter. They should have released it as a movie. Would have made a killing."

Others were confused, saying the episode didn't have any canned laughter to begin with. The original poster said: "That's the problem, the DVD has it but the TV version I grew up with doesn't."

That isn't the only change that has been made to the episodes since they originally aired on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day 1991. Oh To Be In England was originally a 95-minute episode.

But repeats of it are often cut back to 85 minutes in length. Some scenes, such as when they return to the flat in Peckham, are edited out of it.

Then in 1998, when it was released on video tape, it was edited to become one episode – Miami Twice: The Movie. This also featured a number of scenes which were cut, while the canned laughter was added over the top.

Luckily, fans wanting a close-to-original experience can find the episodes separately on streaming sites without the laughter track. However, it is the 85-minute version of the second episode which is available.
