Outlander boss shares cryptic season 8 update after writers’ strike ends

Outlander: Season 7 part 2 teaser for STARZ drama

With the resolution of the WGA writers’ strike, it looks like work is finally starting on the eighth and final season of Outlander.

The Starz drama’s showrunner Matthew B. Roberts took to Instagram with an ambiguous post shared with his 36,000 followers.

Posting an image of a sunrise on a beach, he wrote: “Time to get back to work…”

The image was posted with The Beatles’ track Good Day Sunshine.

Roberts’ image was reminiscent of the Craigh na Dun standing stones in Outlander.

While the writer and producer didn’t explicitly mention Outlander in the post, many of his followers took to the comments section under the post to discuss the show and season eight.

Finally, sewannieb added: “Hoping it is a good thing to get back to work! Thinking positive thoughts for you and crew!!!”

Roberts’ update comes after he previously shared insight into season eight, saying on Outlander’s official podcast how the crew never expected to another renewal after the seventh run.

Season eight’s renewal forced them to “rethink everything” with the show runner saying they had a “good plan” going forward.

He also promised fans Outlander would go out “on a high” and they would “do things right” for the story.

With the resolution of the writers’ strike, prequel series Outlander: Blood of My Blood can also resume work.

Work had only just tentatively started on the show when the Hollywood industrial action hit, stalling the new series in its tracks.

However, the first priority will be on focusing on season eight with the story taking material from the ninth novel by Diana Gabaldon Go Tell the Bees That I Am Gone.

For now, it’s unclear whether any unpublished material from the 10th novel, which could be the last, will make it into the TV show.

Outlander seasons 1-7 are available to stream on Starz in the USA and on Lionsgate+ in the UK
