Shetland series 8, episode 4 cast: Who guest stars in the BBC crime drama?
The fourth instalment of Shetland series eight will see Tosh (played by Alison O'Donnell) believe she has the murderer in custody.
She tasks the team with finding the evidence to charge them while DI Calder suffers in silence with Jean’s revelation.
Meanwhile, Ellen's family have secrets of their own with the influential and notorious Bains, led by dominant matriarch, Grace.
DI Calder is also dealing with figures from her past including her ex-boyfriend Cal Innes and estranged younger brother Alan – now the minister of their late father’s old kirk.
Who stars in Shetland series 8, episode 4?
DI Ruth Calder – Ashley Jensen
Ashley Jensen took over the role of lead detective portraying DI Ruth Calder who is a "formidable, she’s strong, she’s a woman in a man’s world".
Describing her character, Ashley teased: "Ruth Calder’s built this little barricade around herself – she’s almost like an island herself.
"However, she’s very much an urban detective and is resentfully drawn back to Shetland. This case makes her confront herself, her past and the things that pulled her away from her home in the first place.
"Her resentment all stems from her history with the Shetland Isles and why she left all those years ago. It’s not that she doesn’t want to be there, the issue is she’ll need to face the past she left behind.
"Ruth doesn’t expect to be in Shetland for very long – she comes with a tiny wee case and she hasn’t packed her hair straighteners."
Ashley recently tied the knot with Vera star Kenny Doughty six years after the death of her former husband Terence Beesley, who she has a son with.
DI Alison ‘Tosh’ McIntosh – Alison O’Donnell
Returning as the beloved Tosh, is Alison O'Donnell. She stepped into the role of DI at Lerwick police station but has been happy for Ruth to take the lead since she arrived on the Isles.
Alison is married to Daniel Jackson and they have two children.
She is best known for roles in short film Do No Harm, and made an appearance in Holby City.
Cora McLean – Anne Kidd
Cora McLean is a medical doctor working in Lerwick and is used by the Shetland police as an unofficial Crime Scene Investigator.
She gives preliminary details about bodies without the police team having to coat for the forensic team based on the mainland in Aberdeen.
Anne Kidd has also made appearances in Trust Me, Outlander, Nobody Has To Know, and Retribution.
Stella Quinn – Dawn Steele
Stella Quinn in the mother of Ellen Quinn, the young woman who was killed after returning to Shetland with a load of stolen money.
The mother of two is traumatised after the death of her daughter and wants whoever attacked her to pay for it.
Stella is played by actress Dawn Steele, 47, from Glasgow, who is best known for her role as Alexandra “Lexie” MacDonald from the BBC drama Monarch of the Glen.
She also starred as Alice Trevanion in Wild At Heart and Dr Annie in River City.
