Stephen has previously hosted the Dancing On Ice spin-off Defrosted and in February 2022 he was called upon to step in for Phillip when he tested positive for Covid.

Therefore, taking the helm on such a huge show isn’t a daunting prospect for the jovial Catchphrase host.

“Stepping into Phil’s shoes,” he pondered, “You know, the reality is if that does happen. I’ve managed to do it before when he had Covid, so I’ll be it’ll be interesting to see if it happens because I do think the lineup looks great.”

All 12 contestants for this year’s show have already been revealed and started their training even thought he hosts have yet to be finalised.

Former boxer Ricky Hatton, Coronation Street star Claire Sweeney, S Club singer Hannah Spearritt, Love Island’s Amber Davies, Olympian Greg Rutherford, Made In Chelsea’s Miles Nazaire, Gogglebox star Stephen Webb, comedian and writer Lou Sanders.

Former EastEnders star Ricky Norwood, Broadcaster and DJ Adele Roberts, former Coronation Street star Ryan Thomas and Emmerdale star Roxy Shahidi will all show off their skating skill when the show returns in January.

Stephen was talking to us as they prepared to unveil a life-sized statue of him in the Westfield Shopping Centre, Stratford.

Admitting that he was surprised when he first heard about the tribute he said: “Initially, I’ve got to be brutally honest. I thought is this a wind up. Is it like an Ant and Dec sort of last hit saloon for next year’s show?”

The statue was commissioned to celebrate the launch of a brand-new uniform for the legendary Butlin’s Redcoats.

Following its unveiling the statue will take up residence in Butlin’s Minehead resort, where Stephen started his career as a Redcoat.

Butlins will launch a Redcoats Academy in 2024. Redcoat open auditions will be taking place across the country in November. For more info or to register details ahead of time visit jobs.butlins.com/entertainment
