Strictly’s Nikita Kanda says ‘bring it on’ as she brands judge Craig ‘crazy’

Strictly unveils BBC presenter Nikita Kanda as ninth contestant

BBC Asian Network’s Breakfast show presenter Nikita Kanda has vowed to “have fun” during her upcoming stint on Strictly Come Dancing and says she is “excited” for Craig Revel Horwood’s critique of her moves.

She also revealed former contestant, Countryfile presenter Anita Rani, had been in touch with her to offer her advice.

“As soon as she found out, she texted me straight away like ‘go on girl, we’re rooting for you. Go out and have fun.’ I think that’s everyone’s advice to go out and have fun,” she enthused.

“I’m excited to try something new,” Nikita told press including Express.co.uk. “I’m always doing the same hair, the same lipstick… so I’m excited to try out new looks.”

Her excitement even extends to the judges and despite Craig’s fearsome reputation for scathing remarks she is not in the least fazed.

“I think is Craig is crazy, I’m waiting for that, I’m excited for that but think it will be fun. We haven’t even met them [the judges] yet. I say bring it on. We need that right! I want the criticism,” she confessed.

Despite her excitement in an official BBC introduction clip she has admitted that she is “so nervous about dancing live on national TV.”

Nikita was announced as the ninth celebrity taking part in the show early last month. At the time she exclaimed: “I can’t believe I’m going to be on Strictly. This is a dream come true. I’m still pinching myself.

“I don’t think it will properly sink in until I step onto the dancefloor. I can’t wait to get glammed up and get out there. Throw the glitter on me!”

She was recently nominated for presenter of the year at the Asian Media Awards and has fronted reports on The One Show on a range of topics from the rise of cashless businesses to government support for female sport.

Last week she was forced to take to social media to let fans know that she won’t be letting slip in advance who her partner is on the upcoming series.

She posted a video to her 26.9 thousand Instagram followers captioned: “When people won’t stop asking who your dance partner is.”

Asking her followers to “be patient friends,” she used a trending sound to humorously hit back at those who have been probing her for more information.

The audio said: “Don’t ask. No. Is there a chance? Girl.”
