This Morning star spending Christmas away from family as festive season does his head in
This Morning’s Matthew Wright revealed he will spend Christmas Day away from his family again this year as the festive period ‘does his head in’.
The 58 year old presenter, who is a regular on ITV’s flagship daytime show, told how he will be working on LBC radio on 25 December and also on Boxing Day – so will be apart from his wife, Amelia, and their three year old daughter, Cassady. Matthew also spent the last festive season working and had to defend his decision to miss his daughter’s first Christmas in 2020.
Last month, Matthew replaced Andrew Castle on Weekend Breakfast on LBC and, posting an update on social media, he revealed he would be working on the radio station over Christmas. He wrote on X/Twitter: “Weird to some but I’ll be spending Xmas apart from my girls again this year – Xmas does my head in.
“I’ll be keeping you company on LBC over the festive period instead. I’ll be hosting breakfast show again this weekend and 10-1pm on Xmas day/Boxing day.”
Last year, Matthew said he would be spending the festive period away from his family due to work as he discussed the Royal’s Christmas plans on This Morning with former hosts Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield. Matthew – who was previously left mortified after being ‘caught shouting at his family’ while on the ITV show – said: "I’m not seeing the wife and child on Christmas Day, we're having it apart again. My wife and child are down with granny, I’ll be working. I'm at home, working. For LBC."
Phillip asked how his wife felt about it and Matthew replied: "She loves it! It gets her away from me for a few days! How do you think she feels?!"
Meanwhile, in 2020, Matthew said he missed his baby daughter's first Christmas after his wife advised him to take a two-week holiday alone for the sake of his mental health. He spent that festive period in the Caribbean fishing and walking while Amelia and Cassady, 11 months old at the time, celebrated at home.
During an appearance on This Morning at the time, he said: “I've had a lot of mental health issues really over the last year and a half. A friend's suicide, problems at Channel 5, other personal problems, and there was a story written about me, a fake story about me losing my job just before Christmas and it knocked me sideways.”
He revealed how Amelia said to him, ‘what's the point of you being here and not sleeping, do something that's good for you' and supported his two-week getaway.
He confessed 'he'd cried his eyes out' at the thought of missing Cassady's first Christmas but said the break had done him the 'power of good’.
Matthew left his Channel 5 show the Wright Stuff after 18 years in 2018.
