This Morning’s Craig Doyle drops ‘in love’ confession as he shares secret on air

This Morning co-presenter has opened up on his admiration for one of The Corrs sisters in an interview on the ITV show.

Joining Craig and Allison Hammond on the sofas on Thursday morning (November 30) were Andrea and Caroline Corr – half of the sibling pop band that shot to fame in the 1990s with their sister, Sharon, and brother, Jim. Now, six years on from their last release, the Irish four-piece are back with the reissue of their greatest hits record – The Best of the Corrs – which is available on December 1.

Introducing the pair, fellow Irishman Craig was clearly excited as he and Allison introduced a medley of the band's hits including Runaway and Breathless. He enthused: "The music is timeless, it takes me right back – it's fantastic. What I loved about it as an Irish person was seeing traditional Irish instruments like the fiddle in the arena and on Top of the Pops."

Andrea and Caroline went on to discuss a number of aspects of their lives including growing up in a musical family and being taught piano by their dad, and working in a sibling environment – before Craig made his revelation.

He said: "Can I tell you a little secret? As a 15-year old boy in Ireland I took up the pursuing of trying to go out with your sister, Sharon." Craig, who at 52 is a year younger than Sharon, saw his confession met with laughter from her two sisters.

It prompted Caroline to ask: "Is she aware of this at all?" Craig replied: "She is now! My teacher said you're not good enough and it never happened." Andrea then weighed in: "It didn't work. Was she even aware?" Craig reiterated his stance: "She is now! Hey, I was young and in love!"

Craig's love for the band went down on a storm on X (formerly) Twitter, meanwhile, with scores of users hailing his passion for the band. "Watching Craig Doyle on @thismorning being such a fan boy of The Corrs was fantastic #TheCorrs #ThisMorning," one viewer wrote.

Another added: "I can’t help it, I love Irish people, having Craig interviewing The Corrs is a balm for my ears and soul. Craig is so lovely and funny, and as we just witnessed, also a great journalist. #ThisMorning." A third commented: I used to LOVE The Corrs, I still do. I feel like Craig, he seems so excited. #ThisMorning," And a fourth said: "Just when I thought I couldn't love Craig Doyle anymore than I already did…. #ThisMorning."

He continued: "A big, big thank you to them because Christmas has arrived in the studio. It's arrived in your lives and it's arrived to your mornings and Rochelle can't contain herself!" Beaming from ear-to-ear, Rochelle admitted: "I am like the happiest version of me – can we just do every Monday morning like this please? It is just unbelievable."
