Coleen Rooney ‘wanted to appear powerful’ but ‘lacked confidence’ at Wagatha doc premiere

Coleen Rooney 'wanted to come across as powerful' but 'lacked confidence’ at the premiere of The Real Wagatha Story, a body language expert said.

The 37 year old WAG was joined at the screening by husband and ex England football star Wayne – who also 'looked nervous’, according to analysis carried out by Darren Stanton. The body language guru added that while Coleen tried to mask her lack of confidence with smiles – her fidgeting with her wedding ring gave away her true feelings.

The mum of four said she was braced for an emotional night as she attended the screening of Coleen Rooney: The Real Wagatha Story at the Everyman cinema in Liverpool on Wednesday night with husband Wayne and eldest son Kai, 13. Her parents Colette and Tony McLoughlin were also there, along with footballers including Phil Jones and Jordan Pickford.

But, speaking on behalf of Betfair Roulette, Darren said: “Coleen didn’t appear as confident during the premiere. I can see that she was playing with her wedding ring, which suggests she's feeling slightly nervous and worried.

“She's putting on a brave face, masking her smiles and wanting to come across as powerful, in control and happy. But fiddling with her ring contradicts everything she's trying to portray to the world.

“I can't see signs of her displaying true confidence. It’s clearly a big night and a huge achievement for Coleen, so it’s no surprise some nerves were creeping in.”

Darren went on to say he sensed nervousness in Coleen’s interactions with Wayne – while the pair didn’t come across as being ‘very natural with each other’.

He added: “The pair didn’t appear as relaxed in their demeanour, compared to previous events together. Coleen was seen posing for photos, but Wayne has his hands in his pockets, which is a posture we go for when we're feeling uncertain or uneasy.

“I don't get the impression that he's enjoying himself, he comes across as distracted. Wayne may feel slightly out of place when it comes to glitzy premieres, which is understandable as a former footballer.”

Darren added that Coleen and Wayne Coleen seemed to be “on different pages emotionally” at the event.

He added: “Their body language didn’t mirror one another, and there is a lack of eye contact between them. I can tell that Coleen wants to come across as the more dominant one between her and Wayne, she's leading the way throughout their appearance.”

He added: “Despite this, Wayne was clearly on hand to support his wife on the night. While he didn’t want to take centre stage, he very much respects Coleen.”

The Real Wagatha Story – a three-part series that premiered on Disney+ on Wednesday – tells the story behind the social media post in which Coleen claimed that fellow WAG Rebekah Vardy was leaking information about her to The Sun newspaper. When asked if she hoped Rebekah would watch the show, Coleen simply said: "That's up to her."

This week, viewers of the documentary heaped praise on Coleen – saying she should work for MI6.
