Coronation Street fans were left “in tears” as Rita Sullivan actress Barbara Knox reunited with an iconic former show star for her 90th birthday documentary special.

The Corrie legend, who first appeared as Rita Littlewood for one episode in December 1964, has reached the milestone age of 90 and TV star Bradley Walsh has surprised the star with a trip down memory lane for an ITV special to celebrate the occasion.

As the duo discussed the star’s life, which saw her become a permanent cast member in January 1972, she was surprised by a visit from her old TV sidekick, actress Mavis Wilton, who played her best pal, Thelma Barlow from 1971-1997.

Fans were blown away by the dynamic duo’s reunion, and many admitted they were moved to tears.

“So nice to see this, and so many memories of watching #corrie with my Nan in the 80’s and 90’s it makes me emotional,” said one fan.

“Absolutely loving #barbara90 – #corrie tribute to Barbara Knox – what a lovely, warm, touching, glorious watch. Tearing up,” penned a second.

The two were seen hugging and encouraging each other to be strong and not cry. “Barbara may not be crying, but we are!” someone admitted, with a second echoing: “Not me crying when they both said they weren't crying.”

Barbara herself was eventually seen breaking down in tears as Bradley took her to a favourite vacation spot in Blackpool Tower’s famous ballroom where they enjoyed afternoon tea and dancing, much like she did with her own family.

“Barbara and Bradley dancing together in the Blackpool Tower Ballroom I'm gone this is such a beautiful documentary for a Corrie legend Barbara Knox,” gushed one fan.

“Bradley and Barbara's memory lane journey is getting me emotional,” penned another and “Been crying 99% of the way through this.”

Barbara’s cast mates including Ken Barlow star William Roach, Audrey star Sue Nicholls and Norris Cole star Malcolm Hebden also shared heartfelt tributes to the star.
