ITV Coronation Street family rocked by devastating news as old face returns to cobbles

The Winter family are set to be rocked by yet more bad news in upcoming episodes as Bernie Winter faces her sentencing in Coronation Street.

In recent weeks, fans have watched as Bernie’s son, Paul Foreman, has come to terms with his Motor Neurone Disease diagnosis.

His family have rallied around him, but in a shocking turn of events, Bernie was arrested on suspicion of handling stolen goods.

She was later charged, and at her plea hearing, she pleaded guilty, leaving her family heartbroken at the fact that she may miss Paul’s last Christmas.

With that in mind, the Winter-Brown family celebrate Christmas early to make sure both Paul and Bernie get to experience those special memories.

However, it is slightly clouded as Joseph Brown returns home after a spell in hospital with lavender poisoning after Gemma Winter-Brown gave him some lavender oil in his tea.

When Joseph and Chesney return home, they are joined by a child protection officer called Caitlin, who wants to interview Gemma.

The house empties and Gemma is left mortified as Caitlin questions her and suggests that she may have poisoned Joseph on purpose.

Heading into next week, things take another horrid turn as Bernie stands up in court for her sentencing.

Despite hoping for the best, the family are ripped apart when Bernie is sentenced to three months inside.

She is told that she must serve at least half of that time inside, meaning she will miss what could be Paul’s last few months.

Gemma is furious with what has happened to her mum, and she lures Big Garth, who was involved in the incident to Victoria Street.

When she gets back home, young Joseph is still complaining of a headache, so eager to look after him, Gemma brings him some painkillers.

However, as she does that there is a knock at the door from Caitlin, which leaves Gemma taken aback.

As Caitlin enters the home, she takes in the scene and is deeply unimpressed by what she finds.

Later in the day, Chesney is looking to apologise to Gemma for having a go at her for what happened to Joseph.

As part of his plan, he stops at the flower shop to buy her a lovely bunch of flowers, looking to make it up to her.

When he gets home, he hands the flowers to her and tells her how much he loves her, which goes down well with Gemma, who then hugs him tightly in tears.

However, she is worried when Chesney tells her that Joseph’s nana Linda is coming to stay with them. What's Linda doing back on the cobbles?
