MAFS star Chanita reveals the reality of what really happens on awkward wedding day

Married at First Sight UK bride Chanita Stephenson has recalled the tedium of shooting the reality series.

Saddled with groom Jordan Emmett-Connelly on the show last year – they didn't stay together in the end – the 30 year old spoke exclusively to OK! about the realities of making television, and how the awkwardness can really ramp up.

"It's a lot of waiting and that's when the nerves kick in, because you're like, 'This is real,'" explained the OK! columnist

"There's a lot of [camera] shots. Oh, I had to walk around this place with my mum so they could get shots. There was a drone, and I was like to my mum, 'My dress is getting dirty'… there was twigs in my dress because we had to walk around and they wanted the shot. And I was like, 'My husband's gonna see me and I'm gonna be dirty! [laughs].

"I was thinking, this is the first time he's gonna meet me and there's twigs sticking out of my dress and my veil!

"And then yeah, you get ready to go down the aisle, and then that takes a few shots," continued Chanita, before revealing how overwhelmingly embarrassing things got for her.

"So the first initial one… you walk down the aisle like [puffs cheek out], 'I'm gonna meet him'. I actually had to do it a couple more times and that was weird. So I had to kiss him about three times – I thought the first time was awkward enough nevermind the third!"

Meanwhile, the reality star spilled the beans on various behind-the-scenes MAFS secrets in her most recent OK! column.

Highlighting the fakery of the hen parties on screen, Chanita claimed that the shot glasses are actually filled with water as opposed to alcoholic spirits, so any inebriation could be questionable.

"One thing that really made me laugh was the hen night, especially when they were all doing shots. There's no way alcohol was in that glass, we filmed ours using water," she said while watching the 2023 series.

According to the ex-social worker, who labelled Arthur Poremba and Laura Vaughan's vows "so cringe", each contestant is given a specific budget for planning their dream wedding outfit.

"You get a budget, everyone gets a budget, the brides and the grooms – the brides get more than the grooms – and from that, you have to find a wedding dress," revealed Chanita.

"Don't get me wrong, the budget's not the best and especially with the cost of wedding dresses, because they are expensive so you do what you can and, like I said, you have to go buy a wedding dress off the shelf. Within that budget, that includes your wedding dress and your bridesmaids.

"My bridesmaids got their own dresses and I put a bit towards it, but mainly because the wedding dress is so expensive, it all goes on that."

Married at First Sight UK airs on Channel 4.
