Strictly Come Dancing to be next target for Just Stop Oil protest this autumn

Just Stop Oil are reportedly planning to target Strictly Come Dancing for their next public protest, according to The Mirror.

It is understood the protesters are planning to invade the dancefloor mid-show in front of millions of viewers. BBC bosses are now being forced to up their security measures to prevent the possible disruption from happening.

The group is said to have organised a stage stunt to take place at some point this autumn as part of a campaign to “ramp up” their climate activism. However, the BBC have received a tipoff about the proposed plot and are increasing security measures.

The publication revealed that Just Stop Oil [JSO] hope to get “maximum attention” for their disruption and live in the BBC studio is the perfect setting. It has been claimed that the group hope to replicate a recent demonstration in Sweden where eco-group Restore Wetlands stormed the stage during the final of Let’s Dance.

Armed with yellow powder and large signs, two activists ran on stage ruining the final performance before the camera operator slammed a camera into the face of one of the protestors. It is understood the plan for Strictly will replicate this demonstration by similarly charging the stage with signs and confetti.

A source from the group said: “What happened with Restore Wetlands was genius. That’s absolutely something we’re looking at. Strictly Come Dancing has a studio audience so that presents an opportunity to get inside on the night.

“Everyone was talking about that for a long time after. Primetime BBC television with millions watching would be incredible.” Another said they had seen a text message which reads: “’The bees are buzzing!’ [and] others talk about how storming the stage is the plan to create the largest impact.”

Speaking about the proposed plans, Tory MP Nigel Mills explained how this proves the group are simply hungry for attention and wish to cause as much disruption as they can with no consideration to those impacted. He shared his hopes for the plan to fail, arguing the group are not helping the climate cause at all.

Former MET detective Peret Bleksley has warned the BBC that they should be on high alert because Strictly would be the perfect target for the group. An insider from the BBC told The Mirror that Strictly has the appropriate security protocols in place and are taking the threats very seriously.

It comes after JSO interrupted a performance of Les Misérables and shut down the show in London’s West End earlier this month. The crowd booed and jeered as the eco-activists took to the stage holding an orange banner at the Sondheim Theatre in Shaftesbury during the show’s famous song One More Day.

The Metropolitan Police arrested the activists following the disruption at the musical which follows the story of a failed republican rebellion against the French state that set audience members back £200 per ticket. In their latest protest the zealots stormed on stage and strayed orange paint at the UK’s largest gaming convention.

Three protestors were seen charging to the stage to disrupt the winner's final of Tekken 7 at the EGX 2023 event, covering the expensive equipment with orange paint.
