Strictly fans are all saying the same thing as Layton Williams tops leaderboad

Strictly Come Dancing: Nikita and Layton ‘break record’

Strictly Come Dancing fans are all saying the same thing after Layton Williams and Nikita Kuzmin wowed the judges with their “amazing” salsa.

It was so good that three out of four judges on the panel gave the duo a perfect 10.

But whilst the pair exited the dancefloor with praise from the judges, some fans at home were left disappointed by the scoring, claiming that it was “unfair” and that Layton is a “professional dancer”.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, one fan wrote: “Having Layton in this year has ruined #Strictly this year. The sooner he goes the better.” (sic)

Another fan wrote: “I can’t deny that was an excellent salsa but Layton was a dancer already and I only really want to see “journeys” #Strictly.” (sic)

A third went on: “Amazing dance, but Layton looks like a current professional, doesn’t he? I mean, seemed rather awkwardly obvious from that.”

Another added: “Layton is a pro dancer and dance teacher. He should not be in this amateur competition.”

“I like Layton #Strictly but he is a professional dancer, not a level playing field,” one fan pointed out.

However, many fans stepped in to defend Layton, with one fan pleading: “People still banging on about Layton being a professional dancer on here… #Strictly so please for the love of god just shut up and stop ruining the fun.”

Another echoed: “A) Layton is a professional dancer, so it’s not really fair on the rest, but B) He’s the best dancer that’s ever been on #Strictly and it would be ridiculous if he doesn’t win it.” (sic)

Bad Education star Layton, 29, and professional Nikita, 25, danced a high-energy salsa to Quimbara by Johnny Pacheco and Celia Cruz. The performance featured lifts and received high praise from all the judges.

Judge Motsi Mabuse referenced time she spent in Cuba watching salsa, and said: “You guys, I could just steal you and put you in that show.”

Whilst head judge Shirley Ballas said: “You are both on the same page with the choreography… nothing ever looks ugly, untidy, in this style of dancing.”

The duo received a total score of 39 points, which presenter Claudia Winkleman announced has not happened in week five for 13 years.

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Sunday at 7.15pm on BBC One.
